Looking after your heart has never been more important than right now! The leading cause of death in PNG is heart-related – heart disease and heart attacks account for nearly 40% of early deaths
You can take better care of your heart by cutting down on fast foods, fatty foods, and salt. Can the cans of soft drink too, the high sugar content adds to your weight and the higher your weight, the harder your heart has to work! You also need to make sure you get exercise every day, you don’t need to work out in a gym or run, just try to walk as much as you can each day. Leave the car at home.
Common heart attack signs and symptoms include:
- Pressure, tightness, pain, or a squeezing or aching sensation in your chest or arms that may spread to your neck, jaw or back.
- Nausea, indigestion, heartburn or abdominal pain.
- Shortness of breath.
- Cold sweat.
- Fatigue.
- Lightheadedness or sudden dizziness.
If you have any of these symptoms, please pay close attention and go to a hospital to make sure it isn’t serious.
